Heading South for 10 days of the winter

So Wednesday I am flying to Raleigh to spend some time with my family for the holiday(s). I saw my brother and my father in August but have not seen my mother in about 10 months, which is too long. As much as I hate to leave my home here in Madison, it was -13 degrees this morning. Just walked The Bear and even she got cold (couldn't find her cape) and whined to come home. Going to be a meek Christmas, we'll see. Too bad no one in my family rides bikes enough to warrent the gift of that 58 Cannondale I have. Anyway, found this online by Neil Gaimen, thought if anyone reads this they may enjoy it, also if you know a reader of his work, hook it up with a print from neverwear.
Will try to update daily when I am at home, always find cool shwag I forgot I had left and or hidden over the years

a tradgedy of comedies... stop that, reverse it...

today was a bad day...

However going back out to see the Steph at the bar...

Lyrics from "Sometime Around Midnight" by The Airborne Toxic Event

And it starts...
sometime around midnight
or at least that's when
you lose yourself
for a minute or two

As you stand...
under the barlights
and the band plays some song
about forgetting yourself for a while
and the piano's this melancholy soundcheck
to her smile
And that white dress she's wearing
you haven't seen her
for a while

But you know...
that she's watching
She's laughing, she's turning
she's holding her tonic like a crux
The room suddenly spinning
she walks up and asks how you are
so you can smell her perfume
you can see her lying naked in your arms

And so there's a change...
in your emotions
and all of these memories come rushing
like feral waves to your mind
of the curl of your bodies
like two perfect circles entwined
and you feel hopeless, and homelss
and lost in the haze
of the wine

And she leaves...
with someone you don't know
but she makes sure you saw her
she looks right at you and bolts
As she walks out the door
your blood boiling
your stomach in ropes
and when your friends say what is it
you look like you've seen a ghost

And you walk...
under the streetlights
and you're too drunk to notice
that everyone is staring at you
and you so care what you look like
the world is falling
around you

You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her

and you know that she'll break you
in two

New bike no good

The bike is inappropriate for fixie work....
Looking to off-load it
Tobie and I took a look and just nothing that would work.
5 pounds and no heart.
Watching Rocky Horror and listening to "Gasoline" by Airborne Toxic Event
They are incredible....
Anyway..

Holla like ya know me...

the frame is here....

And it is beautiful...
And amazingly light at 5 pounds...
Frigging ridiculous
Carbon fork as well....

The black shape in front is Java the Bear
I believe she is devouring something not for dogs...
More laters....

hmmm....

yeah that jagged metal piece is part of a toe-clip
both of my pedals are blown
however the left jagged metal thin and sharp part makes it very tough to properly place your feet when crossing a busy street...

Wanted to get a new set of cages, however would be like 70 because I would need new pedals as well.
Mine are second hand and Shimano 600.
Turns out for 25 I bought a second hand of cages and pedals, which I can use for parts I guess.
So cold and wet today, first snow Sunday, in theory...

Winter's coming!!!

Not yonder but delicious...

So steph dances too much to be photographed...

Toughie's New Fuji

Fixie has come to ITB.
ES, like myself was mid-project rehab-ing/ reworking a few bikes. He was going to get a SE Lager but however went for the Fuji Track 2008, which I feel is the better choice, and oh so nice to look at as well.
I am in the process of convincing him to liberate his bike from the oppressive influence of his front brake, however since his phone has bee lost/stolen (I am pointing toward the former and not the latter) we have been out of contact.
Hopefully this week I will be picking up a set of crank arms for the purple Peugeot, in that way I can actually ride it around by moving the wheels from my surly to it. Should be good. Next week or so I will be getting it chemically stripped and powder coated. Thinking of doing a rub-on transfer for a head badge, or a name....
for names I was thinking "Bad Wolf" "Usal" or "Daffodil"
Here are a couple of options for the head badge:
Just the Image, with T and M on each side of the spade, and something where spatenbeaus... is

or:Or last but not least...

Getting the back triangle and lugs painted one color along with the for, the long tubes a different color...

More later

I'm back, sort of.....

Living in madison, working 8am-1pm everyday rolling sushi, I commute ~6 miles by bike on the most excellent bike paths here. All except for Monday and Wendesday when I commute the 2 hours to Dekalb, Il for class (by car however)...

The four bikes in the picture are (from left to right) a 1988 Cannondale (aluminum), Steph's Cannondale mt. bike that is a birkenstock edition from a hot minute ago, the purple thing with the drop handle bars and not much else is a Peugot X-country (crica early 90's) frame that I gound the lugs off. I found some people who are going to strip and powder coat it for me in a week or so. The Grey one with the track bars is a Surly Cross-Check which is my pride and joy.
Step wanted me to take the drop bars off the red Cannondale and switch them with her Yellow, like a fool I took them both apart without checking to see if all the components would fit. Of course they didn't...

Anyway, in preperation for winter I am upgrading my surly. I am switching the components from the surly to the peugot and and putting better stuff on the Surly.

however I have been tinkering with the idea of stripping the red cannondale and "fixing" it....

ANyway, will have more later....

Still getting used to Madison

Getting settled in, will have internet soon, end of next week possibly. Looking for a job, there are some bakery gigs open, possibly that would work, or worse comes to worse driving a cab.
Will keep in touch

Spoke Card for the -12 Annual Alley-Cat and Brown Bag Socisl

Finished product, so close...

Since Wednesday or so I have been working on a paper for my Pols 650 class. The topic evolved into "The dehumanizing mechanization of agriculture as argument for implementation of Deep Ecology and Neo-Ludditism in Wendell Berry's novel "Jayber Crow."

Heideggerian philosophy was the thickest part of it, mixing Greek and Latin and German, it was dense I tell you.

However after 14 hours in the library pulling my notes together I have over 15 pages to show for it, now begins the editing process....

Thinking if changing the title to "But the earth speaks to us of Heaven"
its a line from the text that I have liked since the first time I laid eyes on it.

Now I must edit for about one and a half hours till they kick us out and I ride my bike back to the apartment.
